Self-care for your best natural hair Part 2
Hey curlfriends, we’re on a self-care journey to become the person that pursues their best curls. Last week I shared some key steps you could take right now to be your best self and achieve your best curls (if you missed it, check it out here)
This week we’re counting our self-care journey and exploring more steps you can take to become the person that loves their curls and reaches their natural hair goals.
Embracing your curls brings you closer to discovering their beauty and boldly sharing it with the world. It’s time you pursue what’s best for your natural hair instead of comparing yourself to others, blindly following misinformation, and setting unrealistic expectations.
If you’re ready to boldly display your natural curls and be intentional about their care, here are some ways to help you build confidence and pursue your best curls.
Make your relationship with yourself a top priority.
The best relationship you can have is with yourself. Honor yourself and the commitments you make to be and do better. Believe in yourself as much as you believe in others. Take care of your needs and show yourself the same love and respect you would have for anyone you cherish. When you have a solid relationship with yourself, taking better care of your natural hair will be a priority.
Believe in yourself and your ability to care for your curls.
Not knowing exactly what to do doesn’t mean you can’t learn. Missteps and failed styles don’t mean you’re incapable of doing and achieving the best for your curls. With the right knowledge and consistency, it is possible to change the trajectory of your natural experience.
Be consistent.
Whether you have curl care missteps or not, you must follow through and be consistent with caring for your curls. Consistency births progress and will increase your confidence in your ability to care for your natural hair. It also helps you be proactive when missteps happen and help you identify areas for improvement and perfect your technique.
Set goals.
Give yourself something to work towards. Design goals that are realistic and align with the characteristics of your curls. Write them down and share them with others to increase your sense of accountability. Well-defined goals can motivate you to achieve more.
Ask for help & take action.
You might not have everything figured on our natural journey, so it’s okay to ask for help. Never let your fear of how others will view your lack of knowledge keep you from getting the answers you need. Ensure the information is from a trusted source and be ready to execute what you’ll learn (the only way to get results). Knowledge is power, but unapplied, it will do you no good.
Remember, you can achieve your best curls when you are your best self. Practice self-care for yourself and your curls, and watch what a difference it makes on your natural journey.
